Vienna Beef

Chicago - the City of Big Shoulders.  You can call us Windy for our politics if you know the history, or for our weather if you don’t.  You can refer to us as Second, but I don’t recommend you do it to our faces.  Chicago is devoted, above all else, to Chicago, and in a city that loves food, no Chicago food is as beloved as Vienna Beef, named “this country’s best hot dog” by Gourmet Magazine.  The basis for any genuine Chicago Dog, properly dragged through the garden, is the plump and juicy Vienna dog, with its firm texture and subtle blend of spices serving to accentuate the premium beef flavor.  Nestled in a poppyseed bun with mustard, tomato, pickle spear, neon green relish, chopped onion, sport peppers and a sprinkling of celery salt, this is truly amazing eating.  Don’t forget our traditional Maxwell Street Polish, with mustard, grilled onions, and sport peppers.  Or our classic Italian beef, laden with prime roast beef, sliced thinly and cooked in flavorful, well-seasoned broth, and packed in a hearty sub roll.  Top it with sweet or hot peppers, and if you really want Chicago, dip it in au jus for authenticity.  For over 100 years, Vienna Beef has been the taste of Chicago’s festivals and family gatherings.  Whether eaten with the crowd in the parking lot at one of our sporting events, or gathered around the backyard table with neighbors, if it isn’t Vienna, it isn’t really Chicago.  Ask a Chicago ex-pat what they miss, and they’re unlikely to mention the weather or the expressway construction, but one and all will wistfully tell you that Vienna products haunt their dreams.  Parents in other cities send their college students care packages full of cookies and socks, but Chicago parents ship out cases of dogs and condiments - they know what means home to their far away fledglings.  It doesn’t matter whether you are a native Chicagoan whose first solid food was morsels of a Vienna dog, a visitor who passed through once upon a time and has never forgotten the flavor, or a Chicago-neophyte who is wondering what on earth all the fuss is about.  We’ve got what you need, what you crave.  We’ll send you Chicago.
