Sausage Lovers with Vienna Beef, Usinger's

We all know at least one person whose passion for encased meats is all-consuming.  Some of us may be that person.  And this is guaranteed to satisfy that person.  Vienna Polish sausages with their traditional blend of spices, ready for mustard and grilled onions.  Usinger’s cooked brats, with their signature white color, finely ground pork from an old, German family recipe.  And the king of all sausages, Vienna Frankwurst, full half-pound beauties with the snap of a natural casing - the ultimate for any sausage fan. You’ll get twelve Polish, 2-1/4 pounds of brats and six enormous frankwursts.  Grab some buns and condiments, and let the lovefest begin.

Serving Suggestions

Vienna Polish sausages can be served traditionally with mustard and grilled onions. But what about trying them added into you’re your favorite hearty soup recipe…they do wonders for split pea, navy bean, or vegetable soup. Usinger’s cooked brats can make great hors d’oeuvres, just cook, slice on the bias in ½ inch thick slices, put on a thin slice of French bread smeared with honey mustard and top with caramelized onion and fontina cheese and slide under the broiler till bubbly and golden. The classic Vienna Frankwurst is great with grilled onions and sauerkraut, but we’ve also been known to bake them in a glaze of chili sauce and grape jelly. Just slice and serve on cocktail rye for an amazing appetizer.

Preparation Instructions:
Grill until heated.  Serve with mustard and grilled onions, or as desired!

Frankwurst Recipe
Wurstsalat (Sausage salad)
4 Cooked, cold frankwurst sausages, sliced thin
(about 3/4 of a pound)

1 Small onion, sliced thin

Salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

3 T. Wine vinegar

4 T. Vegetable oil

Combine frankwurst and sliced onion. In a small bowl whisk together vinegar, oil, salt and pepper. Pour dressing over sausage mixture, toss and serve with good rye bread.

Classic Maxwell Street Polish

With a sharp knife score both ends with an X or score diagonally along every inch of a Vienna® Beef Polish Sausage (either a 6-inch or foot long cut in half). Grill or deep fry to a crispy, charcoal brown to release the distinct and delicious flavor. Place in a steamed poppy seed bun or warm roll and top with the following condiments:
1. Yellow or Düsseldorf Mustard
2. Grilled Onion (See Tip)
3. Two Sport Peppers

TIP: To grill onion, add a teaspoon of sugar to each whole sliced onions. Then add a pat of butter or grill with the natural juices from the Polish Sausage to give the onions a sweet taste and a golden brown color.
